Purpose of the Forum

The main purpose of EA-SEF 2018 is to promote exchange of ideas and cooperation to support the acceleration of sustainable solutions to the region’s energy situation. The sustainable energy forum will serve as a platform to discuss ways in that multi-stakeholder partnerships, such the Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) Initiative can remove the existing barriers that limit the availability of reliable, affordable and sustainable energy services.

The forum will discuss the region’s energy opportunities and ways to effectively address the energy challenges. The three day programme will serve as a platform to discuss methods to remove the existing barriers that limit the availability of reliable, affordable and sustainable energy services.

Why Attend?

The Forum will bring together relevant stakeholders to enable discussions on the strategies to harmonize renewable energy and efficient energy (RE & EE) policies, to upscale financing in RE & EE projects and technologies, to exchange knowledge and experiences, and to inform about regional programmes. Furthermore, it will entail a workshop on sustainable cities, the geothermal potential and projects in East Africa, and on gender mainstreaming in energy access. It will bring together policy makers, experts, civil society and private sector representatives and development partners to share best practices, identify opportunities and challenges, and find solutions to the energy challenges in East Africa. In addition, it seeks to strengthen the regional network and provide a platform for knowledge- and experience sharing.

The Forum shall provide the key ingredients for successful scaling-up renewable energy and energy efficiency interventions, due to effective knowledge management and capacity building, ensuring that all stakeholders can take informed decisions on the design and implementation of renewable energy and energy efficiency policies or projects to enhance universal access to energy in the EAC region.

The forum will also provide opportunity to foster collaboration with public and private entities active on sustainable energy development in the EAC region. Achieving access to sustainable energy for all will require all policy makers, energy providers (such as utilities, technology and energy service providers) and international community working in tandem.
